LATEST NEWS – DECEMBER 19, 2007

Bridger Canyon Partners (BCP) temporarily postponed the Planned Unit Development (PUD) hearing process for Bridger Mountain Village last May.  The PUD is the official application and documentation that is submitted to the county outlining plans for the project.

The reason for this postponement was to dedicate additional time to allow various community groups to discuss with BCP concerns with the application, and ultimately come up with modifications and additions that the community can support.  Professional planner Jimmy Pepper was hired by the Bridger Canyon Property Owners Association (BCPOA) to review the plan and application and make suggested changes to meet the concerns of BCPOA.  BCP, BCPOA, Bridger Bowl and several other interested individuals have met over the past several months to discuss and address a number of concerns.  Jimmy Pepper has worked closely with BCP’s planner Dick Prugh and significant progress has been achieved.

Highlights of the discussed changes to the Master Site Plan include the following (Below is the original and revised Master Site Plan):

  • Add a non-motorized pedestrian connection, linking the existing Bridger Bowl Base Area to the new Alpine Base Village.
  • Move 25 overnight accommodations out of Cross-cut Meadow area and Maynard Creek corridor along Bridger Bowl Drive and re-locate them closer to Bridger Bowl’s base area.
  • Eliminate certain ‘through’ roads and create more buffers away from wetland areas; generating more open space, better trail connections and enhanced wildlife corridors.
  • Provide a proportionate mix of commercial, overnight accommodations and recreational sites.
  • Creation of additional design guidelines to insure the new Alpine Base Area is a well defined, appropriately scaled, mixed use, pedestrian friendly village.
  • Eliminate the overall phasing plan and withdraw the Phase I Crosscut Conditional Use Permit application until a water permit application is available.
  • Development phasing priorities will shift from the Phase I Crosscut area to either Bridger Bowl’s base area or the new Alpine Base Village.
  • Ensure that the Village works on all levels of development.

BCP is dedicated to creating a unique year-round pedestrian friendly village that will enhance the existing winter recreation venue, as well as the fall, spring and summer months.  Bridger Mountain Village will be a place that locals and visitors alike can be proud of; enjoying a vast network of hiking and Nordic skiing trails that surround a quaint mountain village.  It is also important to note the work BCP and Bridger Bowl have done to establish additional skiing acreage, support facilities and connections; including lift service that ties into existing Bridger Bowl facilities; these skiing amenities will be public and available for all to use and designed to relieve some of the congestion experienced at the base of Bridger Bowl on those big powder days.  These are a few components of many within our revised plan; it is our vision to create a classic, year around mountain village that fits the unique history, spirit and character of the area.

We look forward to moving forward with this exciting project!

Warmly,

Bridger Canyon Partners
